Citizen Science

Nim has collaborated with New York City Audubon (NYCA) both as a volunteer and coordinator of multiple citizen science projects.

NYCA, as part of their regional shorebirds research programs, conducts a survey of the Horseshoe Crab population along New York City's stretch of Atlantic Ocean coastline. Horseshoe crabs eggs are favorite foods of migratory red knots, a species classified as threatened by the EPA. The data collected here went into the larger Harbor Herons program.

The Harbor Herons project is an ongoing shorebird monitoring project, then led by Dr. John Rowden. Nim was hired to create materials and provide training and technical leadership, to partnering organizations such as, Rocking the Boat, shown here.
