SCIENCE: SUSTAINABILITY-FOCUSED RESEARCH

Whether working independently or collaboratively, Nim has designed, contributed, and supported unique science research. Her research design projects include a longitudinal study of a salt marsh ecosystem at Brooklyn Bridge Park and biological assessment of a soil remediation project at an urban triangle park in Queens. While working at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, she performed fisheries field work, which included collecting data on native fish and controlling invasive fish populations.  In addition, she has been co-author of a paper analyzing the efficacy of outreach programs, published by the American Fisheries Society..

She has supported researchers as a mentor and coach for the Thailand Environment Institute and Center for Environmental and Community Research through the Urban Climate Resilience in Southeast Asia Partnership, identifying potential publication strategies, reviewing manuscripts for content and line editing, and bringing content to print.

Motivated by Nim’s goal to awaken the scientist in everyone, Nim has collaborated with multiple agencies to train citizen scientists or to get her feet wet, herself. For the New York City Bird Alliance, she was both a coordinator and volunteer of multiple citizen science projects: Harbor Herons, monitoring the presence of colonial wading birds in the South Bronx and Horseshoe Crab monitoring at different coastal sites. For RiSE, she trained and monitored students as they measured and recorded the status of one of many oyster cages for the NY/ NJ Harbor Estuary Program.
